OUR STORY

I wanted more say
in my own day.

I’m Ben, the founder of Kurb. This started with my own relationship with cannabis—and the realization that something I enjoyed was taking up more of my life than I wanted.

It wasn’t one big moment.

In college, smoking started as something I did with friends. Once I had my own supply, it became something I could reach for whenever I wanted. Before class. After class. Sometimes instead of class. My grades slipped, my routine changed, and I started pulling away from things that mattered to me.

Later, working from home during COVID made the boundaries even harder to keep. Smoking at night turned into smoking earlier in the day. I kept telling myself I would cut back, but my plans and my actual routine kept drifting apart.

What bothered me was how much of my day had started revolving around it. I wanted to feel like I was making the decisions again.

Changing access changed my routine.

I tried putting some distance between myself and my cannabis. I locked it away, had someone else hold the key, and set specific times when I allowed myself access. That gave me room to do something else instead of immediately reaching for it.

It was uncomfortable at first. But I started making space for other habits and activities. That experience stayed with me, along with two questions:

How do you enjoy something like cannabis or nicotine without it consuming your life?

And if you want to quit, how do you begin without going cold turkey?

That’s why I’m building Kurb.

Not everyone has someone who can hold a key for them. And not everyone wants to involve another person in something so personal. I wanted a practical way to give the plan you make earlier a place in your everyday life.

For some people, that means keeping use within boundaries they feel comfortable with. For others, it means gradually cutting back with the goal of quitting. I want Kurb to support that effort: less automatic reaching, more control over your routine, and more room for the rest of your life.

We’re at the pilot stage, building and learning with the people who use Kurb. My own experience is where this began. Yours will help shape what it becomes.
